The hotel is located in the heart of the Chianti wine region, just outside of Siena. Its architectural structure is a wonderful integration of natural materials and carefully selected details. The hotel’s name ‘Le Fontanelle’ derives from the pre-existing water fountains and stone ‘fonts’, which were used for gathering spring water. The immediate area around the hotel was originally a rural Etruscan community, subsequently occupied by the Romans, then in the early Middle Ages by the Longobard population. Over the centuries ‘Le Fontanelle’ became the property of various owners and was used in different ways, until finally it became a simple working farmhouse. Finally in 1999 restoration transformed the property into the luxury hotel it is today. The stylish and sophisticated styling is complemented by fantastic views of the locally owned vineyards.
