Day 1: Catania - Giardini Naxos
After your arrival to the Catania airport, you’ll meet your driver and transfer by private car to Giardini Naxos (or Taormina). In either location you will Check in at a charming four star hotel. Balance of the day at your leisure. Later you can enjoy a welcome dinner and overnight. (D)
Day 2: Taormina – Etna - Giardini Naxos
Breakfast in hotel. Balance of the day at leisure in Taormina, famous for its Greek-Roman Amphitheatre and its enchanting view of the Ionic Sea and Mt. Etna. Taormina has been an exclusive Sicilian hotspot, since the beginning of the 19th century, and is where many noble and rich families of Northern Europe spent winters due to its mild climate. Nowadays, Taormina is famous for its "dolce vita" life style, its beautiful beach, and its shops. Optional Excursion: Mt. Etna w/ volcano jeep ride + lunch in a winery. In the evening, dinner on your own. (B, Optional Lunch)
Day 3: Siracusa – Noto – Modica
Breakfast at the hotel. Meet your tour director before your departure to Siracusa (Syracuse). Enjoy a visit of the ancient city, which during the Greek Age was one of the more powerful cities in the Mediterranean. Visit to the archaeological zone: the Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Ear of Dyonisus and the Latomie. Walk through the historical center on the Ortigia Island to admire the Cathedral, the Aretusa fountain and the ancient streets. Time at leisure for shopping and lunch on your own. Later in the afternoon depart for a visit of Noto a splendid baroque city for a short visit, before going on to Modica, the ancient capital of Contea, a city full of fascinating architectural, artistic and scenic attractions, unique among those pertaining to the splendid Sicilian Baroque period. Take a guided stroll through the area, then check in at the hotel. Relax with dinner on your own and or select to experience Sicilian culinary style with a hands on cooking class (optional). Day 4: Piazza Armerina – Agrigento
Breakfast at the hotel and then depart for Piazza Armerina, a small town in the south-central region, where you will visit Villa Romana del Casale, a country villa of the 3rd century, famous for its precious Roman mosaics. Lunch on your own; then depart to Agrigento to visit the beautiful Valley of the Temples, one of the most representative sites of Greek Civilization in the Mediterranean region. Visit to the Temple of Hercules, the Temple of Juno, the Temple of Castor and Pollux and the wonderful Temple of Concord. Transfer to nearby Sciacca; Check in at the hotel; followed by dinner and overnight. (B, D)
Day 5: Selinunte – Marsala – Erice - Palermo
Breakfast at the hotel before your depart to Selinunte on the southern coast. There you will visit the archaeological area, the largest in Europe. Selinunte was one of the most important towns in western Sicily, but in constant struggle for power against nearby Segesta (also a famous site of Greek influenced temple architecture). Continue on to Marsala, a town on the Western coast famous for its wine production to visit to Salt marshes, then transfer to a farm house for an olive oil tasting and visit to an oil production farm, followed by a lunch. In the afternoon transfer to Erice for a walking visit of this characteristic, medieval hilltop town, located 751 meters above sea level and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the Egadi Islands. Afterwards, drive to Palermo for the overnight; with dinner on your own. (B, L, O)
Day 6: Madonie Park - Cefalù - Palermo
Breakfast at the hotel before you meet your driver this morning and drive to Polizzi, a small village not far from Palermo, surrounded by cheerful countryside and green pastures. Polizzi lies in the Madonie Mountains' Natural Park. This internal region between the Northern Coast and Central Sicily has a wealth of ancient small villages, where many people still live according to the Sicilian traditions. You will visit to Polizzi Generosa, the ancient village rich in historical and artistic attractions. After walking through the town's medieval streets, guests will participate in a cooking class in a local family, followed by lunch. After enjoying the self made meal you will depart to Cefalù, a small fishing village town, famous for its rich historical centre (the Norman Cathedral and the medieval quarter) as well as for its beautiful beaches. Enjoy a guided walking visit and some free time on your own to do shopping. Later return to Palermo, relax and dinner on your own. (B, L)
Day 7: Palermo
Breakfast in hotel, then a walking tour of Palermo to visit this ancient city center that has been a crossroads for civilization in the Mediterranean for centuries: the Norman Palace and the Palatine Chapel, the church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti, the Cathedral, Quattro Canti square are but a few of the major sites. Continue walking in the historical center to the popular and active Vucciria market. Lunch on your own in town. In the afternoon an optional excursion: Monreale for the wonderful Norman Cathedral and the adjoining cloister, an architectural masterpieces of King Roger II. For those staying in Palermo, you’ll have time at your leisure, for perhaps further strolls through the city. In the evening a Farewell dinner at a Local and elegant restaurant where guests will enjoy superb and refined dishes based on typical recipes from local culinary traditions of Sicily as a part of your last night in Sicilia! Day 8: Departure
Breakfast at the hotel and check out; your transfer will take you to the airport in Palermo.
Optional excursions payable locally: Monreale, Mondello and Catacombe €uro 25 per person / Palermo by night: €uro 20,00 per person / Etna jeep ride + lunch: €uro 100,00 per person. For the optional excursions a number of minimum 6 participants is required
