Itinerary Details

Below we have outlined the program over the 8 or 9 night itinerary (depending on tour dates). Please note the difference for days/dates in Piemonte, depending on the travel dates selected.

Day 1: Arrive to Parma – City Tour

Arrive to Parma via your private transfer and to check in to your hotel accommodations. Later in the afternoon your guide will meet you at the hotel and take you on an introduction city tour – highlights will include Palazzo Pilotta, Teatro Farnese, the Cathedral, Battistero, and Teatro Regio. For the evening, dinner reservations at a favorite restaurant. (D, W)

Day 2: Parma – Food Tour

Morning breakfast and then your day offers a guided tour to the regions famous Parma ham and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese production factories. This will be a full day, complete with lunch at a local winery. Afterwards, return to your accommodations and take the evening at your leisure. (B, L, W)

Day 3: Parma – Modena – Bologna

Morning breakfast and then your day will offer an excursion to Modena and Bologna. Each city offers unique historical centers; for Modena – the Duomo, Piazza Grande, Mercato Coperto; for Bologna – walking tour, lunch and tasting the typical food products of the city. (B, L, W)

Day 4: Cinque Terre

Morning breakfast and then you will depart for the Cinque Terre by motor coach (or 1st class train). Once arrived in the 5T you will have the time to check into your hotel then spend time to discover the famous walking paths and panoramic views. Afterwards a visit to a local enoteca wine bar for first tasting of the local wines, then a welcome dinner at a favorite restaurant. (B, D, W)

Day 5: Cinque Terre – Full Day Tour

Morning breakfast at your hotel and then time to meet your guide to embark in the morning by either the local trains or on a ferry boat; with either option giving you the opportunity to stop at the different villages at your leisure. At one of the villages, your stop will allow time for lunch at a typical local osteria. Your Boat or Train Card will allow you to connect between the villages and then take the train connection for the return to your hotel at your leisure. (B, L, W)

Day 6: Torino – City Tour (or arrive Villa in Piemonte)

(May and September tour dates) Morning breakfast and then departure to Torino (by 1st class train connection). After hotel check in, the afternoon offers a guided tour of the city, visiting its main highlights, including Piazza Castello and Palazzo Madama. The tour concludes with a Torino tradition – coffees and hazelnut chocolates (gianduiotto). Then evening provides a special dinner at one of our select restaurant. (October tour dates) arrive to a countryside hotel villa outside of Alba. Hotel check in and time to relax; in the evening a welcome dinner at the villa’s own restaurant. (B, D, W)

Day 7: Winery / Cooking Class (or Winery / Lunch)

(May and September tour dates) Morning breakfast and then you will start the day with a visit to one of the local wineries in the Piemonte wine region. The winery offers a visit to its production facilities, wine tasting and also an opportunity to sharpen your culinary skills with a hands-on cooking class, naturally followed by lunch of the prepared items.(October tour dates) Visit to the villa’s winery, tour and tasting, then lunch. Afterwards into the surrounding countryside to view more local product production facilities. Late in the day, return to the villa and dinner at your leisure.  (B, L, W)

Day 8: Market Shopping in Torino – Wine Enoteca (Alba Truffle Festival)

(May and September tour dates) Morning breakfast and then enjoy the day taking some time for the various food markets in Torino. Later in the early evening for a final aperitif and then recommendations for dinner. (October tour dates) Morning breakfast and then you will venture to Alba for a full day to experience the White Truffle Festival. Now in its 86 edition, the festival is fully enriched with the food and wine products of the Piemonte region. With either itinerary you will eventually return to your hotel (or the villa) where the evening is yours to relax. (B, W) or (B, L, W)

Day 9: Departure (or Day in Torino)

(May and September tour dates) Breakfast at the hotel and check out; your transfer will take you to the Torino airport. (October tour dates) This last day will be spent in Torino; a city tour and then free time to explore on your own. Later in the day, return to the villa and dinner at your leisure. (B)

Base price includes accommodations for 8 nights (October dates are 9 nights), arrival transfer from Bologna or Florence Airports, departure transfer to Torino airport; transportation as needed for excursion activities, plus meals and cultural activities as indicated (transfers from/to other cities can be provided; costs may be extra).

The hotels below represent those we will use on a particular set of tour dates, in part based on availability and or the number of group participants on a respective tour.


Palazzo dalla Rosa Prati **** Family owned palazzo in the center of Parma. The historic building, located in Piazza Duomo, offers seven exclusive suites, all of them offering charming ammenities and views. Each suite features a kitchenette, air conditioning, satellite TV, and Internet service.


Hotel Marina Piccola *** Situated overlooking the small marina of Manarola, Hotel Marina Piccola provides our guests the ideal, quintessential location in the Cinque Terre. The rooms have just recently received a “makeover” (spring 2014). All rooms provide Wi-Fi and air-conditioning.

Hotel Porta Roca **** Nestled in incomparable scenery, Hotel Porta Roca gives our guests the impression of sailing above by the sea. It is surrounded by the pristine nature of the Cinque Terre and its lush Mediterranean vegetation overlooking the bay of Monterosso. Most rooms feature large balconies overlooking the sea and all with custom furnishings, satellite TV and air-conditioning.


Grand Hotel Sitea **** Located in the heart of Risorgimento Torino, just off the very central via Roma and Piazza San Carlo, and a few minutes’ walk from Piazza Castello, the Grand Hotel Sitea charms guests with its discretion and reserve. Built in the early 1900s and featuring a traditional brand of hospitality, the hotel is superbly positioned for those who want to be able to get about the city center on foot, to visit the heart of the old town or for shopping.

Villa Tiboldi **** This special villa will be a feature of the program beginning in 2017. Located in the heart of the wine region between Asti and Alba, the villa offers its 10 rooms, each is different and unique in style and décor, with original features and elegant furnishing that creates an elegant atmosphere. The main complex was built in the 1750’s as a farmhouse, but in early 1900’s it was rebuilt into a vacation home. After years with different owners and fluctuating fortunes, the villa was purchased in 1995 by the owners of a local winery, who decides to supplement their growing wine business with the beautiful vineyards surrounding the Villa and to transform the remaining ruins of the Villa, into a country house hotel.

Terms & Conditions

Definitions: PALIOTOURS.COM is a registered domain name. It is used in the context of the World Wide Web and other marketing portals to promote and solicit travel services. The name is part of Atlantic Ventures USA, Inc., (“the Company”), a registered travel company and provider of travel related services.

General Conditions: Confirmation and payment of any reservation constitutes acceptance of the financial agreements between the Company and the Customer and the provisions of this agreement are in effect. The Company is acting as a tour operator responsible for arranging reservations for the services as outlined in the website All suppliers providing transportation, guided tours, and lodging for the Company are not associated with, nor are they employees of the Company. The Company assumes no responsibility or liability for any claims, damages, expenses or other financial loss, whether to person or property, arising from, but not limited to, injury, accident, death, delay, alteration or inconvenience, by whatever cause, including airline scheduling, default, strike, terrorism, war, hostility, civil disturbance, quarantine, or resulting directly or indirectly from any other acts of nature. Under no circumstances is the Company to be construed as a Common Carrier under contract for safe carriage of the passenger or his/her baggage and personal belongings.

Prices: Tour prices are generally quoted per person, double occupancy, ‘land only’. Single supplements may apply. Airfare is not included. Prior to Final Payment, Prices are subject to change. Notification will be given if necessary. Prices are guaranteed once final payment is made.

Reservations and Payments: For any Group Tour (i.e. Opera Tour, Food & Wine Tour), the initial deposit (40%) is due from the confirmation of its availability or on receipt of invoice. Payment of any remaining balance due, unless otherwise stated, must be paid no later than 60 days prior to designated Starting or Travel Date. Changes to the original reservation or Cancellations can result in a $100 Change Fee per reservation. Payments can be made by credit card or by Euro bank transfer. Credit card payments are completed in USD currency at current exchange rates. Payments can also be made through the online payment service provider, PAYPAL. For Credit Card made Reservations, the Balance Payment will automatically be charged to the credit card provided, unless the reservation is otherwise cancelled or notice is given to use an alternate form of payment. If the reservation was arranged with a Paypal Invoice payment, a new invoice will be issued (prior to the due date) to receive the balance. For Group Tours no changes are allowed less than 60 days prior to departure.

Credit Cards: American Express, VISA, MasterCard and DiscoverCard are accepted for reservations and payments. Credit card payments are handled in USD currency and processed using a financial exchange rate, which is defined as current market exchange rate plus 4.0% (plus an additional $5.00 for AMEX).

Waiting List:  If a Group Tour is fully booked at the time you submit a Reservation Request, you will be offered a ‘Waiting List Option’. If you chose this option, it will require a deposit. Upon any cancellation you will be automatically added to the primary tour group or confirmation of your special package. If you cancel while on the waiting list, or we reach the 60-day final payment period before you can be confirmed, then your deposit will be returned in full, net of any credit card services charges.

Refunds and Cancellations: The Company reserves the right to cancel any Group Tour, Day Tour, Property Rental or Cooking Class at any time if sufficient reservations are not received or for other unforeseen reasons that impair the success or enjoyment of the tour, event, activity, or use of rental property, as the case may be. In these cases all deposits and or payments will be returned in full.

For any reason IF YOU DECIDE TO CANCEL A RESERVATION, YOU MUST NOTIFY THE COMPANY IN WRITING OF YOUR INTENT TO CANCEL. If you cancel a reservation and the written cancellation is received within 30 days from the date you made the reservation, then all fees paid will be refunded, with exception to the provisions for Tickets stated below and otherwise net of credit card service charges. After the first 30 days of your reservation period, deposits and payments will follow the refund schedule below. If you cancel after the first 30-day period and someone takes your place, then administrative cancellation fees may apply, in addition to Ticket costs, which will be deducted from your deposit or payments.

After the 30 day initial reservation period, but
Prior to 90 days before Start Date: Refund, less 25% of total cost, net of Tickets;
Prior to 60 days before Start Date: Refund, less 50% of total cost, net of Tickets;
Prior to 45 days before Start Date: Refund, less 75% of total cost, net of Tickets;
45 days or less before Start Date: No refunds.

No refunds are made for unused portions of any reservation, including but not limited to missed meals, missed guided tours, Tickets (includes airline tickets), or non-use of hotel room or property rental.

Hotels: Room charges, unless you are otherwise informed, will be incurred by the Company and then passed on as invoiced to your credit card either prior to or on your arrival. Any hotel room cancellation and subsequent refund is subject the refund schedule provided herein. This schedule may override any that exists or that is generally provided by the hotel. Hotel room VAT taxes are included in the prices we provide to you (unless stated otherwise). City Taxes (a/k/a “bed taxes”), now required in most major Italian cities, are separate and paid by you directly to the hotel. Details of these taxes will be included in your reservation confirmation invoice.

Transportation: Group Tours – the Company will provide ground transfers from/to airports or central city train stations as needed to accommodate the travel group. Transportation will also be provided on daily excursions as noted in the respective tour itinerary. All vehicle fees and fuel costs are included in the cost of the tour. The cost of these service may be adjusted or the service eliminated if the group size is not sufficient.

Hotels & Meals: Group Tours – Hotels are selected based on quality and our own personal experience. Our minimum requires that the hotel has been listed for 3 stars as rated by the Italian Government. Air conditioning is standard for all rooms and they are equipped with shower, telephone, and TV and in most cases a mini bar. Breakfast will be served each day, the content variable based on each hotel. Customer is responsible for expenses associated with personal items incurred while staying at the hotel (i.e. mini-bar items, telephone calls). Other than breakfast, additional meals will be provided as noted on each itinerary by “group lunch” or “group dinner”. The combination of dinners and lunches may depend on your tour itinerary and group size.

Itinerary: Group Tours – The Company reserves the right to alter the itinerary or substitute hotel accommodations or transportation services as it may become necessary to provide for a tour that meets with our requirements.

Tour Guides: The Company has arranged for expert tour guides to accompany your group on the various city tour segments of the itinerary. Each maintains their official status, Guida Turistica Autorizzata, with the tourist boards and local authorities. They also speak several languages (Italian, German, English, French) should you need help with translation.

Travel Suggestions: So that we can accommodate the transfer of all parties and their luggage, please limit yourself to one piece of luggage, in addition to one carry-on type bag. Reasonable baggage sizes should apply. If this cannot be accomplished, please notify us at the time of your reservation. A nominal surcharge may apply in order to transport your luggage.

Group Tour Members: The tours require each participant to provide their cooperation to unexpected situations that may occur during the tour. Also each member should be prepared for walking during the guided city tours and be mentally alert during such group activities. If you have any physical or other health concerns, we suggest that you speak to your doctor and for him/her to access you ability to partake in the itinerary. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate requests for wheel-chairs or individuals that require special assistance. The Company reserves the right to decline to accept any person as a member of a tour, or require any participant to withdraw from the tour at any time should such person becomes a risk to the health or safety of himself or other tour members.

Travel Insurance Protection: To cover costs associated with your reservation, the Company encourages you to consider purchasing a travel insurance policy. The Company does not supply or support any one company in this regard but can make suggestions as to the companies that provide this service.

Passports & Visas: All customers must posses a valid passport and/or any visas or special travel documents that can be used a proof of citizenship. The Company accepts no liability for clients improperly documented. For holders of U.S. passport: the passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned date of departure.  ie. if you leave the U.S. on February 10, 2017 then the expiration date would need to be August 10, 2017 (or after).

Most premiums cost very little, but if needed the policy can be very useful for travel to a foreign country or even before departure in case you need to cancel a trip. We do not supply insurance coverage, however, we can suggest companies for your own review.

Embassies and Consulates issue passports for emergencies requiring immediate travel. Emergency passports are limited in validity, and cannot be extended. Passport holders are required to exchange their limited validity passports for a full-validity photo-digitized passport upon completion of their emergency travel, either through passport facilities in the U.S. or at U.S. Embassies and Consulates abroad.

If your passport was lost or stolen, you are advised to report the loss/theft to the local Italian police in the area in which it occurred. Although filing a police report is advised, it is not a requirement to apply for an emergency passport. In order to replace the passport, you must apply in person at the appropriate Consular office for the district you are in and submit:

• proof of citizenship (a certified, sealed birth certificate, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, Certificate of Naturalization or expired passport) if possible, or
• one valid form of photo identification (e.g. foreign passport, driver’s license, military ID, etc.) if possible, and
• two passport photographs
No appointment is required.

U.S. Passport Requirements:
Now your U.S. passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your planned date of departure. ​ ie. if you leave the U.S. on August 10, then the expiration date would need to be ​February ​10, 2017 (or after).

Change in U.S. Passports for Children:
As of February 1, 2008, the two-parent consent requirement for all passport services was extended to include all children under age 16. Either both parents must be present to provide signatures at the time of passport application, or in the event one parent cannot attend, s/he must send a notarized statement of consent and valid identification. Alternately, the applying parent may present a death certificate or sole custody order for the child.
Passports – What to do before you go

Identification – make 2 copies of your passport and driver’s license, medical insurance, bank credit cards (that you will take with you on the trip) and proof of travel insurance (if purchased). Leave one set with a friend or family member, so they can access this information if needed. Take the second set of copies with you, but keep them separated from the original identification.
